Speaking of other cylinders, I’m curious, why Ecoboost Premium over Base GT? Fuel mileage + luxury > power, v8?

It’s a daily driver. I don’t like the base interior or radio, I would rather have features and mileage than a stripped out GT

Understood, and as soon as I asked I found your post on why you bought the Ecoboost and it made perfect sense. But just to be fair, I bought the “Base” GT with the PP, because I wanted the power but didn’t really need the extra stuff I wouldn’t use anyways. I don’t think “Base” these days mean what it used to. Even the base GT came with more stuff than I thought it would (proximity key, backup camera, power everything, pretty nice interior, etc.). Of course I would have loved to have a Premium GT, but couldn’t swing the extra ~$4k for it. FWIW mine is also a daily driver, but I drive 12mi/day (4 trips, I go home at lunch). But to prove your point, the gas mileage sucks when you’re typically only driving at 55mph max. I’m averaging around 15mpg so far since I got it (~2500mi).

I test drove a Camaro SS and almost bought it (2015 1SS), but the dealership wouldn’t give me the price I wanted so I walked. I was with a friend, and he’d been pestering me to try out the Mustang. His dad is a die-hard Mustang fan and he’d been around Mustangs his whole life.

We went to the Ford dealer. First car the salesman pulled out for me was a Base ‘16 GT. We took it out for a drive. The power was fine. I wasn’t blown away, but in fairness I hadn’t been blown away by the Camaro either. The sound was okay, but I know it can be fixed by an exhaust. Back to back, between base Camaro and Base GT I thought the Camaro was more impressive. I found the GT underwhelming.

They didn’t have any manual ecoboosts, but they did have a single fully loaded automatic. Premium, performance, all that. We took it for a drive. It blew me away. Sure, it’s not nearly as fast as the GT. But I had driven a handful of cars in my search: a 2011 Camaro SS, a 2014 Mustang GT, a 2015 Camaro SS, a 2016 Mustang GT...none of them left the same kind of impression that the Ecoboost did. The Ecoboost was just such a fantastic all around package. It didn’t feel slow, the interior was nice . A few weeks later I found a manual one, drove it, and that was it: I took that one home that day.

I won’t lie, I do find myself often thinking “I should have had a V8". Now that I’ve had it for a while the power isn’t as thrilling, though it’s still anything but slow. Ultimately I think that’s just the kind of car guy I am: always looking for the “next” car, the “better” car. Had I bought the V8 I probably would have been thinking “should have had a Corvette” or something else. Just yesterday I was driving home, punched it onto the highway, and smiled thinking ‘damn, this is a great car’.

I get 25 MPG while daily driving the thing. It’s comfortable, it looks amazing, with a blowoff adapter it sounds ridiculous. When it’s cold the heated seats are a godsend, when it’s warm the cooled ones help. The large touchscreen is a pleasure to use. The LED lighting throughout the cabin makes the car feel special. The sound system is fantastic.

Sure, I could have gotten a base GT for about the same money, and I’m sure I would have loved having the power and noise. But I’m very happy with my Ecoboost
